Concept: Hoverboard

A Hoverboard from the Science Fiction film: Back to the Future

The idea of having a floating board is pretty cool, think of its many uses. But how can we take this concept and bring it to life? It seems difficult to create a mini board that can hover and suppourt Human weight. Are we missing some kind of advanced technology? In my mind, the two metallic circles (located on the left and right side of the board) have some kind of magnetic pulse that balances and lifts the hover board. This force must be very strong and powerful one. But how can this be done, how can just metallic plates make a board hover? I'm pretty sure that in a couple of years we will produce the technology to put this genius idea into the works.

What features would a hoverboard include? Would/should it have a security feature for younger children.....?

French artist Nils Guadagnin recreates the hoverboard from Back to the Future II.
